Measles, Mumps and Rubella vaccination rates for Rosehill College
Measles cases have recently been identified across New Zealand and have already impacted two schools in our region. Measles spreads easily and can be serious for both children and adults. To support your preparedness, we have assessed what proportion of your school roll has evidence of measles immunity.
As at 13 October 2025 1313 (78.4%) of your school roll are recorded as fully immunised for Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) (two doses after 12 months of age). For your school, 361 (21.6%) students appear not to have a record on the Aotearoa Immunisation Register (AIR) of having been fully immunised. This could be because;
- The student has had MMR vaccinations in New Zealand, but these have not been uploaded on AIR.
- The student has overseas vaccination records that need to be verified and uploaded to AIR.
- The student has missed one or two doses of MMR vaccine for whatever reason.
- The student and/or whānau have declined MMR vaccination.
- The student is an international student and so does not have an NHI and vaccination records in New Zealand.
Why are we sharing this data?
Individuals who are not considered immune to measles may need to stay home from school each time they are exposed, to prevent further spread.
We are sharing this information so your school can understand the potential impact a measles case could have on attendance and to support your preparedness and business continuity planning.
We cannot share information on staff MMR vaccination status. However, it is important to consider the potential workforce impact if staff are exposed and not considered immune.
Invitation to an Outbreak Preparedness for Schools webinar: Wednesday 3rd December, 12-1pm
Dr Subha Rajanaidu and Nurse Practitioner Rochelle Eynon from the National Public Health Service will present simple steps schools can take now to be prepared for a measles case. A Q&A session will be included.

Getting prepared and maintaining business continuity
We recommend you take steps now to prepare for possible measles cases at your school or impacting your school community.
1. Encourage staff to check if they are protected against measles
Consider asking all staff born after 1 January 1969 to check they have medical records confirming:
- two MMR vaccinations after 12 months of age, or
- evidence of past measles infection.
On request, staff may choose to share this information with school management to support workforce planning during an outbreak.
If staff prefer not to provide records, encourage them to obtain copies for themselves or to consider being immunised. This will speed up contact tracing and help reduce disruption.
2. Encourage immunisation for those unsure or not fully protectedMMR vaccination is free in New Zealand for:
- anyone aged under 18, and
- adults eligible for publicly funded healthcare.
It is safe to receive additional doses if someone is unsure of their vaccination history.
Immunisations appointments can be booked:
- at participating pharmacies listed on Healthpoint.
- online at: Book a vaccine.
- by calling the Vaccine Helpline on: 0800 28 29 26
- at general practice, hauora and Pacific providers
3. Encourage overseas-born students or staff to register immunisation records
People vaccinated overseas should provide their records to a New Zealand healthcare provider so these can be verified and entered into AIR. This will speed up contract tracing and reduce the time they may need to stay away from school if exposed.
International students will not have New Zealand healthcare records or an NHI. Schools usually maintain a register of their immunisation status from enrolment, which can be provided to public health if needed.
4. Encourage parents and caregivers to check and update their children’s immunisations
Below are key messages you may wish to include in newsletters or other communications.
Measles immunisation – key information

- If you or your child haven’t had two measles immunisations, or are unsure, it’s recommended you get immunised. It is safe for most people to receive another dose.
- Children with two recorded doses after 12 months of age will not need to stay home if exposed to a measles case.
