Rosehill College Graduate Mathew Payne Wins Bathurst 1000
Rosehill College is proud to celebrate the incredible achievement of one of our alumni, Mathew Payne (Class of 2018), who has made history by winning the 2025 Bathurst 1000 — the most prestigious race in Australian motorsport.
At just 22 years old, Mathew stood on the top step of the podium at Mount Panorama after a dominant performance with the Penrite Racing team. His victory places him among the youngest winners in Bathurst history and highlights the extraordinary talent, composure, and drive he’s shown throughout his rise in the world of motorsport.
Mathew’s journey began right here at Rosehill College, where he was a passionate and focused student with a clear vision for his future. Since graduating in 2018, he has taken the motorsport world by storm — competing internationally in Formula 3, Porsche Carrera Cup, and now the Supercars Championship, where he has quickly become one of New Zealand’s brightest racing stars.
This Bathurst 1000 win is more than just a personal triumph — it Is an inspiration to current Rosehill students that big dreams can be achieved, and that world-class success can start right here in South Auckland.
We are incredibly proud to call Mathew part of the Rosehill whānau and we look forward to watching his continued success in the years ahead.
Congratulations, Mathew — your school is cheering you on every step of the way!
