Rosehill Student Finalist at NZ Fashion Week
We are proud to celebrate Riti Chand (Year 12), who has been named a finalist in the Walk the Line NZ Fashion Week Young Designer Awards 2025.
This is Riti’s second year as a finalist, after first presenting a couture design in 2024. For 2025, she will showcase her work in the Cultural Fashion category, where designers celebrate heritage, traditions, and identity through fashion design .
Riti’s design is a two-in-one reversible lehenga, fusing her Fijian-Indian heritage with Pasifika influences. One side of the skirt features structured pleats adorned with appliquéd masi flowers and an Indian-inspired border. The reverse reveals tapa-printed pleats, connecting with wider Pacific traditions. A corset-style bodice, detailed with 3D masi flowers and tapa print, is completed with handcrafted coconut shell beads and a dupatta repurposed from a previous lehenga. The result is a garment that embodies cultural storytelling, sustainability, and creative expression .
Riti will represent Rosehill College at New Zealand Fashion Week’s Walk the Line show on 30 August 2025 at the Auckland Viaduct Waterfront. This event, running since 2011, has become Aotearoa’s biggest fashion platform for youth and a launchpad for many young designers. We congratulate Riti on this incredible achievement and look forward to seeing her talent showcased on the runway.
